History Biographical
Lillian Claydon came to Canada in 1902 from Ilford, England. She worked for Mrs. Higinbotham in Lethbridge, and it was in Lethbridge that she met Ernest A. Pitt. Mr. Pitt worked as a butcher in the city, and later as a brakeman for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Lillian Claydon and Ernest Pitt married in St. Augustine's Anglican Church on 5 September 1904. The couple had 12 children, three of whom died in infancy. Of the other nine children, Elsie and Edward (Ted) were born in Lethbridge; William (Billy) in Calgary; Ernest (Ernie), Dorothy and Grace in Medicine Hat; and Teeny, Joseph (Joe) and Ralph in Coalhurst. Lillian Pitt died on 24 June 1982, age 93 [Source: Our Treasured Heritage: A History of Coalhurst and District. Coalhurst Historical Society, 1984. pages 473-474]
