History Biographical

Norman Andrew Link was born at Lethbridge on 3 September 1893, one of five children and the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Link. Adam Link was the homestead inspector in southern Alberta. The family moved to Kaslo, British Columbia about the turn of the century. Norman Link earned a degree in engineering, and after service with the 59th Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery during World War 1 he began work for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). Mr. Link worked on construction projects throughout western Canada, and was Assistant Superintendent at both Lethbridge, Alberta and Medicine Hat, Alberta. In 1942 he was appointed Superintendent at Regina, Saskatchewan. In about 1943 Mr. Link resigned from the CPR to become a partner in the Assiniboine Construction Company in Regina. Married to Mavis Link, the couple had a son William and daughter Gloria. Mr. Link was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Cutknife, Saskatchewan and Regina, Saskatchewan. Norman Link died on 11 August 1946 in Calgary, and is buried in Queens Park Cemetery in Calgary.

Custodial History

These photographs were given to the donor by her mother-in-law, Mrs. Irene Virtue. She in turn received them from Mrs. Gloria Stobart, who told Mrs. Virtue that the photographs originally belonged to Mr. Norman Andrew Link.

Scope and Content

Eleven photographs pasted into album pages. Three of the photographs show the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway high level bridge at Lethbridge, two are views of downtown Lethbridge, two are of unidentified people, one is of stooked grain in a field, and the rest are of an unidentified homestead.
