- Prince and Princess Takamatsu of Japan officially opened the Nikka Yuko Centennial Garden with 3,000 dignitaries and visitors in attendance. The Prince and Princess also paid a visit to the Genevieve E. Yates Memorial Centre later in the day to greet elderly Japanese Canadians. The Chidori Kai (Seagull Club) of Winnipeg were a group of 22 singers under the direction of Richard Seaborn.
