- Photograph of CPR Robot Car.This was the newest innovation in Canadian railroading. It was a Locotrol-operated slave power unit that came to Lethbridge for testing on the CPR Crowsnest Pass run. The unit was controlled through radio signals sent by the engineer in the load engine. Two 3,000 horsepower locomotives were located in front of it. The main purpose of the Robot was to allow trains to complete their runs in shorter time by maintaining an even speed along the length of the entire train. If successful, the Robot was planned to be used mainly on the CPR main line.
