History Biographical
Johnston, Fred, October 27, 1893. Father was George Henry Johnston. According to the donor, who is Fred Johnston's widow, "My husband, Fred, was born in Lethbridge... leaving the city 1911... He and his mother came east to Toronto for him to go to Toronto University after his father's sudden death". About this photograph, the donor writes "I would judge by the size of Fred - drummer boy in front row - he would be 10 or 11 years old. The band would go to Sweetgrass, Montana for July 4 celebrations and they (the band from Sweetgrass) would come to Lethbridge for July 1. George Harper was the leader of the band since he taught music in the town."
