- Copyright Glenbow Archives, Calgary. Permission for use must be obtained from them. Colonel MacLeod was chosen as the man to stamp out the whiskey trade by establishing the NWMP in the west. He built the first police force in the west at Fort MacLeod and developed a peaceful understanding with the Indians.
