- View of the west end of Pincher Creek as of April 1962. Most of the west end had not been filled up with houses and buildings before 1961 and only one or two old buildings can be seen in the mid-right of the photo. The building in the middle of the photo is the Canyon School (elementary grades one to six), built in 1961. A new portion was added onto the northeast side in 1967-68. The houses on the other side of the school were built in 1961-62 as the demand for new housing increased in Pincher Creek due to the opening of the Shell Oil plant south of town. The valley bottom (the area around the school and houses) is totally filled with residential structures. The portion immediately in the foreeground of the creek is used as a rodeo grounds and has a community hall. The street in front of the school and in front of many of the houes became Victoria Crescent after the photo was taken. This photo was taken from the south hill looking northwest. The road cut into the hill in the background is still in existence and runs wests from Pincher Creek to Beaver Mines with access to Beauvais Lake and other rural points. Livingstone Range is in the background.
