- History Biographical
- Donald Alexander Duff was born on14 December 1879 in Tomdachoil, Perthshire, Scotland. He was the son of John and Janet Duff, and came to Lethbridge with his parents in 1885. Trained as a civil engineer, Mr. Duff also served as Lethbridge City Clerk from 1917 to 1930. He was a surveyor for the Chief Mountain Highway in Waterton Lakes National Park when that road was constructed in the 1930s. When World War 2 began, Mr. Duff was employed by the federal government in the Civil Aviation Branch, assisting in the design and construction of airports in southern Alberta as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He continued in this work until illness forced him to retire a few months before his death. A lifelong bachelor, Mr. Duff died on 19 June 1945.
