- Scope and Content
- Photograph of Dick Heppel, a retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer, at his amateur radio operator station ("ham" operator). The operator's call sign is VE6JR which is on top of the "homebrew" transmitter, left corner. The map on the front wall shows the different countries that ham operators can contact as well as call signs of the countries. The certificates on the wall show the different awards that Mr. Heppel would have achieved by communicating with different stations world wide. This would indicate that Mr. Heppel was a very accomplished operator. On the desk is Vibroflex Lightning Bug - a mechanical bug Morse key. It appears the photo was staged, as he appears to be talking on the mic as well as sending morse code at the same time, which would not happen. (According to Russ Stelmack, Cranbrook)
