- History Biographical
- "Eva Brewster was born in 1922 to a wealthy family in Berlin. Her father died shortly after being stripped of his property by the Nazis. At the age of sixteen, Eva married Freddy Raphael and they had a daughter, Reha. In 1943 the family was sent to the concentration camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau, which only Eva and her mother survived. After the war, Eva remarried and lived in Africa, England and Scotland before settling in southern Alberta with her husband and daughter. She has become well known for her determined defence of personal rights and freedoms. For twelve years, sho wrote a column for the Lethbridge Herald that allowed her express views on democracy, intolerance, and racial prejudice. Friends persuaded her to revise for publication the memoirs of the concentration camp that she wrote shortly after the war, and her experience became immediately relevant when a schoolteacher in southern Alberta was found teaching that the Holocaust is a hoax. Eva Brewster has been involved in numerous writing and research projects. In 1976 she was chosen "Ms Chatelaine" and was a YWCA "Woman of the Year" in 1977. In recognition of her writing and her service to humanity, an honourary Doctor of Laws degree was awarded to her by the University of Lethbridge in 1986."
