- Scope and Content
- 35 minutes Copy of a reel to reel tape recording of the mess dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the 25th Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery in Lethbridge. Brigadier General John Smith Stewart, first commander of the 25th Battery, introduces the original members of the Battery in attendance at the dinner. General Stewart goes on to speak of the formation of the 25th Battery and the recruitment and training of the first officers and non-commissioned officers: Dr. Peter McGregor Campbell (Medical Officer), Dr. Frank Hamilton Mewburn (Lieutenant), Leslie Silliker (Sergeant) and others. General Stewart also speaks of acquiring horses for the Battery from his friend Raymond Knight. The first half of the recording dealing with the creation and training of the 25th Battery has good sound quality, but the second half is somewhat garbled due to background noise from a previous recording on the original tape.
