History Biographical
The Paramount Coffee Shop opened on 9 October 1950. The lunch counter was designed by Ed Neve, the father-in-law of Bob Shackleford, whose family owned and operated the Paramount Theatre. The original owners were Jack and Vera McDougall. Florence French began work in the coffee shop as an employee in 1970, and purchased the business from the McDougalls in June 1986. In the time the Paramount Coffee Shop was in operation the only piece of equipment that was not original to the business was the grill, which was salvaged from Green Acres Drive In when the movie theatre closed in 1986. In 2007 the Paramount building was sold to local developers, and the theatre and coffee shop closed. Renovation of the building for other purposes is to be completed in 2009.
