- History Biographical
- Albertan. Gompei was born 6 January 1896 in japan. He immigrated to Canada in 1917, then returned to Japan in 1921 to marry Namiye Kido (born 5 January 1906). They returned to New Westminster, British Columbia where Gompei was employed by the Great Northern Railway. From there they moved to Surrey, British Columbia and bought a small fruit farm. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters while there. In 1942 they were interned and relocated to Welling, Alberta and from there they moved to Stirling, Raymond, Taber, and Barnwell working the sugar beets. The family moved to Lethbridge in 1957 as Gompei's health was poor. He retired and lived here until his death on 20 July 1978.
