- History Biographical
- The park registration building was started in 1935 and completed in 1936 as a make-work project, with funds from the Public Works Construction Depression Relief Act. Until it closed in 1990 the building served as the main entry point to Waterton Lakes National Park. It housed park attendants who registered incoming vehicles, advised visitors of park regulations and answered visitors' questions. A secondary function was to provide public lavatories for park visitors. The building's design was prepared by the federal Parks Branch architectural division, and incorporated key elements of the rustic theme which was being promoted for key public buildings in the park. It combined a front section containing the registration office and a staff bedroom, with public lavatories in a rear wing. The front section is clad in local pink fieldstone to the level of the window sills, with half-timbering and stucco infill above. All of the windows feature leaded glass except for those in the bay addition on the north elevation. The original bay window was removed for the construction of a larger ticket wicket to accomodate increased traffic. As of 2007, the building was closed and shuttered, and its future unknown.
