- History Biographical
- This mine, known as Galt Mine No. 3, was assigned the same registration number as all Galt mines prior to Galt Mine No. 8. The mine began production in the spring of 1892, but it was not until new equipment was installed in 1897 that Galt Mine No. 3 reached its peak production capacity. In 1908 the Alberta Railway & Irrigation Company did another major upgrade of equipment in the mine, including a steel tipple with a production capacity of 1,634 metric tonnes of coal daily. The mine was formally abandoned on 15 February 1924. Source: Johnston, Alex et al. Lethbridge: Its Coal Industry. Occasional Paper No. 20. Lethbridge Historical Society, 1989
