- History Biographical
- Owned and operated by the City of Lethbridge, the two entries to this drift mine in the river valley were opened by Wilfred Sim in June 1909. Coal from this mine was used by the City Power Plant, and in various City-owned buildings. By 1941 the steam-driven generators used in the Power Plant were worn out, and they were impossible to replace during World War 2. Despite considerable local protest, the City Power Plant converted to natural gas generators and the City Mine was formally abandoned in October 1941. Source: Johnston, Alex et al.
