- History Biographical
- The New Barnes Coal Company opened this mine in 1909, and by July that year the mine was producing coal. The company abondoned the mine in the spring of 1925, but it was re-opened in November 1929 by Albert Edward Dupen and Son. From then until the mine was formally abondoned on 29 December 1942, Albert Dupen and his son Harold operated the mine with a succession of different business partners: James Wilkie, Steve Susnar, Otto Krossna, Mike Miskulan and Alex Koshman. On 2 November 1929 Albert Dupen informed the mines inspectors that he and his son intended to re-open the New Barnes Mine by means of a new entry to the old workings, which they did. Total production from the New Barnes Mine was 51,023 metric tonnes of coal. Source: Johnston, Alex et al. Lethbridge: Its Coal Industry. Lethbridge Historical Society, 1989
