- Captain Ernest C. Hoy became the first pilot to successfully cross the Rocky Mountains by air on August 7, 1919. A ceremony was held August 7, 1966 in Lethbridge, in Galt Gardens to unveil a plaque honouring Captain Hoy's feat.
