His father came to the New Dayton area in 1903 from Minnesota. Reg was born in New Dayton in 1919 and lived there until moving to Rosemary, AB in 1943. - He mentions that their farm was about 30 miles south of Lethbridge and that they only came to Lethbridge 3 or 4 times a year. - He rode a horse to school for 10 years, but he was 14 before he was allowed to use a saddle. - When he was 11 he attended the Raymond Stampede and entered the steer ride. He was paid $1.00 to ride. The next year the stampede went from a 1 day to 2 day event. Names some of the events. He rode 13 steers that year and earned $13.00. - A few years later he began bareback riding. Riders were paid $2.00 per ride. His first ride was successful and he thought at the time how easy it was. He participated in 4 rodeos each year - Stirling, Raymond, Cardston, Lethbridge. - When he moved to Rosemary money was scarce. He talks about hiring someone to dig a well on his land. - Lists some of the prizes he has won rodeoing. - Talks about some of the rodeo events that are no longer around. - Talks about some of the injuries he has received rodeoing - In Oct 1948 at the Ponoko rodeo he broke his neck while participating in the bareback ride. - Talks about how he became involved in supplying livestock to the rodeos. - Talks about his grandson's [Duane] involvement in the business.
