Scope and Content: He started at the Shaughnessy mine in 1929 and was there for 35 years with the exception of 2 surnmers he worked at the Michel/Natal mine. He describes his job as a loader and mentions that he was paid by how many tons of coal he loaded each day. - Talks about mining conditions and mentions that Shaughnessy was not as dusty as Michel/Natal because the coal was harder. - Talks about equipment and machinery at Shaughnessy. - Work hours were 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. - Talks about the union. ' - Talks about entertainment outside of work - going to plays, working around the house. On occasion he also worked for his wife's uncle who owned a hotel. ( - Relates a story about the time he mined a hugh chuck of coal that damaged the tipple. - Following the closure of the mine, he was one of the last to leave because he stayed on while the machinery and equipment were being dismantled. - After Shaughnessy closed he worked for short time at the Michel/Natal mine.
