- 2 VHS t-60 tapes. Length: 29 minutes.jock marshman talks about coal mining.see attached for summary of the tape. Talks about he and his brother mining coal for their family's use when they were 10 and 12 respectively. He describes the the mining operation in a small mine. - He started at the Carmangay mine at the age of 14. He describes his first job as a car pusher. At 16 he was given a job in the tipple. At 18 he got a job operating a mining machine at a Champion mine. He describes the machine. - Talks about a cave in he was in. - Talks about working conditions and the hours he worked. He worked in the mine in the winter, and on a farm during the summer. He was at the Champion mine for 5 years. - Talks about different methods of mining. He worked for non union mines and mentions that everyone at a small mine was considered equal. - Talks about sports teams he and the other miners played for. - Talks about how hard the work was and how strong a miner had to be. - Talks about accidents in the the mines and an ambulance cart the mine had. - Talks about the single miners going into town on the weekend to visit the bar or billiards hall.
