1 60 Minute Audio Cassette Tape. Interviewee: Jack And Mary Bailey Interviewer: Lori Jarokosky, Museum Programmer. Date: 11 August 1993. Length: Approximately 50 Minutes. Side A - Jack's father started in the Diamond City mine in 1907. In 1928 he went to work in the Shaughnessy mine. - Jack started at the Shaughnessy mine in 1930. Describes various positions he's had and wages he received. - Relates a story about a miner who was so upset he stabbed one of the coal ponies with his pick. - Talks about the mules and ponies used in the mines. - Discusses the shifts, wages, and positions in the mine (including contract jobs). - Talks about identification tags. - Talks about the mine ponies and stables - he mentions the horses worked an 8 hour shift. - Talks about how coal is mined. - Talks about a cave in he was in. SideB - Additional information about the stables and horses. - Talks about a trick they would play on new employees - the new employee was to show up their first day in a suit and tie. - Jack was 16 when he started with the mine.
