Tape 1 Side A (30 min) - Biographical information: Mamie was born in England in 1892. She received her education in England. Her brother, Christopher, was working for the AR&I and convinced the family that the dry Alberta climate would be beneficial to the.ifather. Their first home was on 14th Str and 7th Ave S. Her father died about a year after their arrival and her mother died in 1943. - Employment history: Her first job was as a stenographer for the McBeth Agency. During WWI she was employed by Western Grocers. She worked 5 1/2 days a week for $40 per month. Information about Western Grocers. She worked for a short time for the Federal Mine Coal Co. in their office in the Hill Block. Circa 1920 she had a temporary position with the Drought Survey Team transcribing the field reports. She also worked temporarly for the RCMP before getting a possition at the Marquis Hotel. - Information about the Marquis Hotel and its employees. - Information about Sven Ericksen. Mamie moved with Sven to the El Rancho and then to Ericksen's Family Restaurant. She retired from the restaurant in 1971. - She first attended St. Cyprian's Anglican Church and then circa 1915 joined Westley Methodists. She sang in the choir. Names other members of the choir. SideB - Continue Southminster Choir. She sang with the choir for over 50 years. - She is a member of the Eastern Star. The Lethbridge chapter was formed in 1911 and Mamie joined in 1912. The mandate of the club is to provide assistance to those less forturnate. She served on the executive in a number of capacities. - Mamie has her own home on 7th Ave and 16th Street S. She has 3 lots and had a rose garden with over a 100 plants in it. Her mother used to make strawberry and rubarb wine and Mamie has a few bottles from her mother's last batch made in 1943. - Her home has some lovely furniture and ornaments because her father was employed on a cargo ship for a few years and would bring back pieces from all over the world.
