History Biographical

Construction of this building began in 1948, and was completed in 1950. The building was renovated several times between the time of its construction and 1998, when it was demolished to make way for a new city hall on the same site. The city hall completed in 1950 at 910 4 Avenue South was the first building in Lethbridge's history built for the single purpose of housing the offices of the municipal government. Prior to its construction, departments of the municipal government were housed in a number of buildings in downtown Lethbridge. Within a few years after the construction of city hall, Lethbridge and its municipal government grew to the point where City offices were again housed in various buildings throughout the community. It was not until the current city hall was built that the City's offices were reintegrated into one building.

Scope and Content

Workers back fill the foundation wall on the south side of Lethbridge City Hall built to replace two garage doors.
