1 90 Minute Cassette Tape. See Attached For Summary of interview With Mrs. Marion Dunlop. TAPE 1, SIDE 1 006 - 030 Family history. Father came from the U.S. in 1903, homesteaded west of Carstairs. Mother born in Nova Scotia. They met and married in 1906. Ranched and farmed on the Rosebud, called the Spokane Ranch. 031 - 082 Attended York School. Moved into Carstairs to attend school, spent summers on farm, life on the farm, raising of turkeys. St. Hilda's School - Calgary (Gr. 12). Normal School - Calgary. 083 - 183 Attended Massage School for 1 year where she received her diploma. Various appliances and procedures discussed. 185 - 228 Moved to Lethbridge to open a massage parlor in the Sherlock Building. 230 - 235 Rental accommodations in Lethbridge. 253 - 258 Alexander Hotel built in 1911. 265 - 298 Restaurants and cost of meals discussed, dark's Coffee Shop and Yale Cafe. 328 - 348 Set up Lethbridge's first massage parlor. Massage rates. 434 - 491 Life in the Sherlock Building, various vendors on the street, prices at the Farmers Market. TAPE 1, SIDE 2 003 - 076 A day in the massage parlor. Treatments were paid for either by cash, time payments or barter system. Spare time spent knitting. Laundry service. Credit with merchants. Life in the Sherlock Block. 080 - 088 Massages for people with hangovers. 096 - 140 Percy Two Guns, artist, painted beautiful pictures and peddled them. Sold pictures through Westbrooks Barber Shop. Came down with T.B. and spent some years in sanatorium in Calgary. Attended the Banff School of Fine Arts. 142 - 240 Joined CATS (Canadian Auxiliary Territorial Service) - women's army reserve. Discusses training, uniforms, vehicle maintenance and war bond drives. 241 - 242 Married Jim in 1942. 247 - 256 Sold massage parlor equipment. 264 - 274 McLeay Sisters millinery shop. TAPE 1, SIDE 2 286 - 299 Hull Block and dark's Ladies Wear fires. 301 - 303 Parents attended the first Calgary stampede in 1912. 304 - 336 In 1926 Carstairs entered the chuck wagon races, the family involvement in these races. 337 - 351 Steer riding and equipment used. 354 - 362 Best Dressed Cowgirl in both Carstair and Lethbridge parades. 387 - 395 Louie, the Chinese cook at the Spokane Ranch. 418 - 423 Used hailstones for the making of ice cream. 424 - 484 Memories of the Rosebud - hail and rain storms.
