Came to Lethbridge, worked in #3 mine as well as farmed. Farmed 80 acres at 13th Street & 21st Avenue North (1928). Small dairy operation, sold when pasturization law came into effect. City bought and serviced 2.5 acres of the farm (1972-1973). Children bought farm from then later sold it to contractor, Henry Krohn. Mother's history. Immigrated 1910. Married 1912. Family history. Education. Janitor - Mr. Chapman. Collection of coal from slag heap for winter supply. Collection of coal (Cont'd.) Various money making ventures as a youth. Country dances, airport and olanes. Began working for C.P.R. 1941. Married Kay Peters 1942. Family residence until retirement 317 - 12th Street 'C' North. New home #6 York Place. Fireman for C.P.R., discussed duties, routes, trains. Cold sulphur spring at Frank, Alberta. Foundation of building still in existence. Engineering exam passed 1949. Shipping of sugar. Shipping of sugar from factory in Raymond. Shipping of cattle (stock trains), passenge Life on the trains. Prairie fires, accidents, animals on tracks. Stories of the "Virginia Creeper" and the "Eaton Flyer". Engineers' dread - people and vehicles on tracks. Accidents on tracks. Trestle bridges, all wooden except for the High Level bridge, robot and diesel trains. Discusses High Level Bridge (pylons, trusses, sprinkling system, accidents). Diesel engines replaced steam engines (1950's). Gruelling working hours.
