History Biographical
John William (Red) Murphy homesteaded in the Travers district. He won the land in a poker game on a riverboat on the Mississippi River in 1904. He eventually amassed eight sections of land in the area. Mr. Murphy worked on the high Level bridge in 1908, and also worked on the Spiral Tunnels at Field, British Columbia.
