- History Biographical
- The Blood Tribe artifacts exhibited in "Ákaitapiiwa Ancestors" come from the collection of Frederick and Maude Deane-Freeman. Mr. Freeman was the long-time issuer of rations on the Blood Reserve. His wife Maude was the person responsible for building the collection, probably in the years around 1900 as their stay on the Blood Reserve came to an end. The Deane-Freeman collection was eventually split between two institutions; the British Museum, and the Royal Ontario Museum through a loan from Victoria University, University of Toronto. In 1998 Louis M. Soop visited the Royal Ontario Museum to view the artifacts in their possession. From this visit, Mr. Soop conceived the idea of the exhibit that became "Ákaitapiiwa Ancestors" . The exhibit was the result of a project partnership arranged between the Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Archives, Royal Ontario Museum, British Museum, Red Crow Community College and 26 other corporate, private and government sponsors. The "Ákaitapiiwa Ancestors" opened at the Sir Alexander Galt Museum and Archives on 1 May 2002 and closed on 31 December 2002.
