- History Biographical
- Jacob Liebelt was born at Washburn, North Dakota on 1 August 1910. He was the third of 11 children of William Liebelt and Theresa (nee Hauff) Liebelt.
- In 1911 the family moved to a homestead at Morse, Saskatchewan. Drought forced them off that land and into Idaho in 1916, but they returned to Canada in 1921 to work on the S.I. Harris farm at Milk River. From 1922 to 1925 Jacob Liebelt attended school, followed by a seven year job on Dean Smith's farm. He worked briefly in Saskatchewan in 1932, and took a variety of agricultural jobs from 1933 to 1938.
- In 1933 Mr. Liebelt began to attend social and sports events at the Powell School, where he met Pearl Woitte. They were married on 12 November 1938 at the home of Pearl's parents. The Liebelts had four children: Maxine (born 7 October 1939), Elaine (born 25 March 1942), Lawrence (born 5 March 1944) and Maurice (born 10 May 1946). They farmed for many years, gradually building up their holdings to four sections of cultivated land, and three sections of grassland on which they raised cattle.
- The family had a home in Warner, and commuted from there to the farm seasonally. When their son Lawrence married in 1963, he and his wife moved to the farm. Lawrence gradually took over the operation of the farm, until his father Jacob sold the grassland and cattle and fully retired in 1978.
- Jacob Liebelt was a member of the Warner Lions Club, and a life member of the Warner Elks Club. He helped build the Warner Memorial Library and Warner Civic Centre. Pearl Liebelt attended Olds College for one winter, and became very skilled at a variety of handicrafts. Pearl also taught ceramics at the Warner Drop-In Centre. She joined the United Prairie Women's Institute in 1940, and was a competitor and judge in Women's Institute Constituency Fairs.
- Jacob Liebelt died in 1999 and Pearl Liebelt died in 2000. Both are buried in the cemetery at Warner.
