History Biographical

Ernest Coe came to Canada in 1883 from England, and upon his advice, the rest of the Coe family followed in the same year. His parents James and Elizabeth arrived with three daughters, and the family settled in Fort Macleod. James worked as a veterinarian for the North West Mounted Police, his son Ernest worked for local ranchers, and daughter Edith opened a private school. Later, the family moved to Lethbridge where Edith Coe again opened a private school. It was the first school in the community, and Miss Coe became the first teacher in Lethbridge.
