.1 - The Following Is Typewritten On The Back Of The Map And Was Originally Addressed To Judge Jackson. "Calgary, July 27, 1939: I Have Your Letter Of The 26th Instant, With Reference To The Origin Of The Word Taber. I Find That The First Plan Was Dated July 15, 1905 And Registered February 22, 1906. The Dominion Surveyor Was R J Gordon And The Three Owners Were R A Van Orman, William Probert, And W F Russell. The Witness To Their Signature Was A L Wood. I Am Advised That All Those Men Were Mormons. In This Plan He Town Was Called Tabor. The Next Plan 5638l, Was Registered March 7, 1906 And The Town Was Called Tabor. The Surveyor Was R J Gordon. The Next Plan 6390l Was Registered March 30, 1906 And The Town Was Spelled Taber. The Surveyor Was A Mcvittie. The Town Has Apparently Ever Since Been Spelled Taber. There Never Was A Townsite At Elcan. This Was Only A Siding For A Ballast Pit."
