- The big house occupied by the Chief Factor of the Hudson's Bay Company Edmonton. Magrath's comments read: “It was on the hills, a short distance north of the fort. The Alberta Legislative Buildings now occupy the site of the big house.” The photograph was taken about 1884. Chief Factor Richard Hardistry is standing in centre. To his right , Reverend. J. McDougall (sitting down). To his left, Leslie Wood, the next to him is unknown to me. The 3rd who is standing up, is William Pearce, Dominion Land Surveyor, with whom I was acquainted, as I had entered the land surveying profession. He was very much older than me.
