History Biographical

Vernal James (V.J.) Harney was an Alberta banker and amatuer cartoonist. During the 1930s he resided in Raymond, Alberta, where he was a member of the Chinook Club in Lethbridge. Harney produced a series of cartoons depicting the activities and other members of the club. Harney would live in several communities in Alberta throughout his life, including Raymond, Delburne, Leduc, Camrose, and Carbon. He married Ethel Haimes in 1933 and shortly after, they had two children, Yvonne and James, both born in the 1930s.
