History Biographical

The Chinook Outdoor Club was formed in 1971 and remains active. The club organizes full-day trips for its members, including hiking, scrambling, cycling, backcountry skiing, telemark and snowshoe throughout southern Alberta and parts of Montana. Destinations include Waterton National Park, Glacier National Park in (Montana), the Castle River drainage, the Crowsnest Pass, and the Upper Oldman River area. Trips are held year-round, typically on weekends. In addition to outdoor activities, the club hosts an annual summer barbecue and holiday gatherings for its members. Barbara Dickinson is a long-time member of the Chinook Outdoor Club, having joined by at least 1981. She remained active with the club for approximately forty years. Dickinson was an active and visible member, regularly participating in club activities. During her tenure, she held a number of executive and organizational roles, including Vice President in 1994 and president in 1995, as well as serving for many years as Hike/Trip Coordinator. She appears frequently in the club’s records in connection with executive leadership and trip planning activities.
