East Wilson Telephone Company was incorporated in 1951 under the authority of the Government of Alberta. The company operated as a rural mutual telephone company, providing local telephone service to a district southeast of Lethbridge. In cooperation with the Alberta Government Telephones (AGT), East Wilson Telephone Company formed part of a broader provincial system in which locally organized mutuals managed distribution of service to rural subscribers to East Wilson. As a rural mutual telephone company, East Wilson was responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of local telephone lines and poles within its service area, as well as supplying telephones to subscribers. East Wilson Telephone Company maintained up to sixteen telephones on a single rural line. The shareholders of East Wilson Telephone Company passed a resolution to relinquish their operating rights within the Lethbridge exchange area in 1968. The company would be later liquidated in 1973. Raymond V. Thomson served as president throughout its active years, and Beverly Thomson worked in administration. Surviving correspondence indicates an address in Maybutt, Alberta, just north of Stirling. It is unclear whether this location functioned as the company’s office or the residence of Raymond and Beverly Thomson.
