History Biographical
The American Indian Movement (AIM) began as a grassroots movement in 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the first pan-Indigenous movement uniting First Nations across the Americas. They came together in solidarity, no longer divided by colonial tactics. AIM saw borders as being a colonial construct. They aimed to support Indigenous resistance and to work across borders. Their influence inspired THE RUN (Treaties Honored Entirely, Reservations Under Natives) a political and spiritual movement. Members of the Blood Tribe organized THE RUN. In March 1980, they crossed the country to protest broken treaties. Members had a bundle of legal documents outlining their concerns. They took turns carrying it, relay style. After 26 days of running, they reached the steps of Parliament in Ottawa.
