History Biographical

Aviation history in Lethbridge began in the 1920’s when the City of Lethbridge obtained a license to operate a public aerodrome, south of the Exhibition Grounds, on land which is now part of the Lakeview subdivision. In 1938, the City relocated airport operations to its present site, 417 Stubb Ross Rd, Lethbridge. Ownership changed hands frequently in the following years. WWII saw the Government of Canada leasing the airport and in the 1960’s the airport came under full authority of the Canadian Department of Transportation (DOT). In 1997, the Airport was belonged by the County and in 2018, it was taken over by the City of Lethbridge.

Scope and Content

The fonds consists primarily of records from the airports from the 1960’s to late 1990’s when it was operated by the Canadian Department of Transportation (DOT).
