History Biographical

A collection of photographs, programs, newspaper clippings and other records related to the Lethbridge Symphony Association and the Lethbridge Symphony Women’s League. The Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra was formed in November 1960. Albert Rodnusnky, a local teacher, was instrumental in forming the group. The association was officially incorporated under the Societies Act on February 16, 1961, and their first performance took place shortly after. The Symphony Women’s League was also formed in 1961. Albert’s wife, Pat Rodnunsky, asked Magaret Nelson to approach a Women’s Music Club in Lethbridge to start a women’s group to support the orchestra. Pat, Margaret and Isobel Wray formed a group of interested women with Mrs. Catherine Aos serving as first president. The group raised funds in support of scholarships, instruments, music stands, costumes, office furniture, conductor’s podium, resident personnel and organized a number of special events. They hosted concert receptions, symphony balls, annual tea & fashion show, Valentine’s cup & saucer tea, and cabarets.
