- History Biographical
- John Kerr, a scottish miner hailed from Ayrshire, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in the 1900’s. His family eventually settled around the Crowsnest Pass area at Police Flats (now Leitch Collieries Historic Site) where promising coal outcrops were found. The family lived in the old North West Mounted Police log cabin barracks, built in 1881. John worked as mine’s pit boss at the short-lived Leitch Collieries. The town of Passburg sprang up next to the mine, which boasted things like a bank, meat market, general stores and other businesses. Most images are portraits, family photos or shots of natural phenomena and buildings. Though the collection is labelled ‘Kerr’ there is no guarantee that the subjects in the photos are related. Further investigation is required.
