- Scope and Content
- A collection of minutes, communications, financial statements, newsletters, and other documents from the Sons of Norway in Lethbridge. The Lethbridge Sons of Norway, Solsyn Lodge #603, was formed in 1986 by a group of people interested in sharing their Norwegian heritage. Over the years membership has fluctuated but there are over 67 members who are proud of their heritage and who enjoy the company, traditions and customs of their fellow Norwegians. Some of the objectives and purposes of the Sons of Norway include: - To maintain and promote interest in everything that is good and noble in the Norwegian and other Nordic national character. - To aid in preserving the history of the pioneers of our countries, and the part the people of Norwegian or other Nordic descent have played in the development of them. - To sponsor or support such cultural, charitable, and social service projects as are related to its general purpose as a fraternal benefit society. Over the years, the Lethbridge Sons of Norway has worked on several projects to support the local community. Among most notable projects is the Legacy Project, which started in 2018 with the planting of a Norwegian Maple at Henderson Lake and also adding a plaque which honoured Norwegian ancestors. The project helped develop the Legacy Regional Park in North Lethbridge, with the donation of 18 trees, including Norwegian Crimson King Maples, Oak tree, Norwegian Maples and Lidens, all planted behind the donated park bench which had an inscription crediting the lodge. The project was concluded in 2019.
