- Artist Biography
- 1895-1971. Born Max Ihlenfeldt in Berlin, Germany. He was known as a Italian painter. During World War I, he was captured and sent to Hungary where he remained a prisoner of war from 1916-18. When he arrived in Paris at the end of the war, he started to paint. Campigli consorted with artists like Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio, GIno Severini and Filippo De Pisis. His visits to the Louvre deepened his interest in ancient Egyptian art and became a lasting source of his own painting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massimo_Campigli
