- SPECIMEN JARS WERE REMOVED FROM THE MORGUE AT ST. MICHAEL'S HOSPITAL BEFORE THE HOSPITAL WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1996. FOR MORE HISTORY ON HOSPITAL SEE P19960116001-GA. ACCORDING TO RETIRED ST. MICHAEL’S PATHOLOGY STAFF MEMBERS DR. RAY BAINBOROUGH AND HARRY HEINRICHS, ALL OF HARVESTED ORGAN AND TISSUE SECTIONS, WHICH WERE INTENDED TO BE DEVELOPED INTO SLIDES, WERE PLACED INTO THIS TYPE OF CONTAINER. THE SECTIONS WOULD, AFTER THE AUTOPSY PROCEDURE, BE DEVELOPED INTO WAX BLOCKS FOR FURTHER SLIDE ANALYSIS. THE SECTIONS WERE PUT INTO WAX FORMS WHICH, WHEN WAX WAS ADDED, PRESERVED THE SPECIMEN AND FACILITATED ITS DIVISION INTO EXTREMELY THIN SLIDE SPECIMENS. SLIDE SPECIMENS WERE, THEREAFTER, ANALYZED BY STAFF AT THE LETHBRIDGE MUNICIPAL AND ST. MICHAEL’S HOSPITALS.
