UNKNOWN USE, POSSIBLY FOR PRESSURIZED STEAM TO STERILIZE EQUIPMENT. MAY HAVE BEEN USED IN EITHER THE BREWING KETTLE OR THE MASH TUN. IN THE KETTLE THE WORT WAS BROUGHT TO BOILING TEMPERATURE, AND IN THE MASH TUN, THE GROUND MALT IS MASHED WITH WATER, WHICH REQUIRES CAREFUL TEMPERATURE CONTROL.
