Description
STERLING SILVER, BRASS. ROUND MEDAL WITH BRASS PIECE RIVETED TO CENTRE, ON WHICH IS EMBOSSED A PICTURE OF A BICYCLIST. SILVER FACE IS ENGRAVED WITH DECORATIVE PATTERN, WITH A MAPLE LEAF BORDER AND A BOW AT THE BASE. RING AT THE TOP FOR HANGING. BACK IS ENGRAVED WITH "L.&D.A.S. 1 MILE NOVICE 1ST PRIZE. WON BY L.S. RIPLEY. SEPT. 27TH 1900." ALSO MARKED WITH "ELLIS STERLING".

DONOR BORN IN LETHBRIDGE. DONOR'S FATHER CAME TO LETHBRIDGE WITH FAMILY IN 1889. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE HOSPITAL BOARD IN 1930 AND CITY COUNCIL 1931-C.1937. DONOR'S UNCLE L.S. RIPLEY WAS THE OWNER OF THE SPORTING MEDALS.
