WOOD-TURNED BOWL, MADE OF POPLAR. WOOD IS HONEY-COLOURED, WITH DARKER KNOTS AND GRAIN. TWO DARKER, INCISED RINGS ON OUTSIDE OF BOWL’S RIM. TEXT MARKED ON BOTTOM OF BOWL READS "BRYAN MATTHEWS, POPLAR, L.A. 1.04.09".

THIS BOWL WAS CRAFTED BY BRYAN MATTHEWS OUT OF WOOD SOURCED FROM A POPLAR TREE THAT GREW OUTSIDE THE GALT MUSEUM BUILDING FOR APPROXIMATELY 70 YEARS. THE TREE WAS CUT DOWN ON APRIL 17, 2008, AS PART OF THE MUSEUM’S STRATEGIC REVITALIZATION OF ITS PUBLIC ENTRANCE AND SURROUNDING ROADWAYS. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, SEE PERMANENT FILE.
