FROM AUGUST 6-8, 1981, LETHBRIDGE HOSTED THE ALBERTA SUMMER GAMES, A PROVINCIAL COMPETITION FOR VARIOUS SPORTS AND AGES THAT INCLUDED TENNIS, HORSESHOES, BASEBALL, SOFTBALL, TRACK AND FIELD, ARCHERY, AND MORE. THE GAMES INCLUDED COMPETITIONS IN MUSIC AND THEATRE AND WERE OPEN TO PARTICIPANTS AGES 13 AND OLDER. IT IS PRESUMED THAT THE LETHBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY COLLECTED THE FLAG FOR DISPLAY DURING THE 1981 ALBERTA SUMMER GAMES. THE LETHBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTED VARIOUS PROGRAMS DURING THE 1981 GAMES INCLUDING A “COLLECTOR’S DAY”, THEATRE PRODUCTIONS, AND FILM SCREENINGS WITH TIES TO THEMES OF SPORTS AND COMPETITIONS. THE LINE BELOW READS IN BLUE CAPITALS "LETHBRIDGE". THEN IN YELLOW "SOUTHERN ALBERTA SUD". FINALLY THE BOTTOM LINE IN BLUE IS "1975 FEBRUARY 11-23 FEVRIER 1975". ON EITHER SIDE OF "LETHBRIDGE" ARE A SMALL RECTANGULAR SLIT, EDGES HAVE BEEN REINFORCED TO PROTECT FROM FRAYING. ALONG THE TOP ARE FIVE HOLES REINFORCED BY GOLD COLOURED ALUMINUM RINGS, ARE ALSO ONES IN THE BOTTOM CORNERS. ALONG THE TOP AND BOTTOM THE FLAG IS FOLDED OVER AND SEWN WITH A SPACE ALL THE WAY ALONG OPENING, THIS IS WHERE A YELLOW NYLON ROPE IS THREADED THROUGH. IT COMES OUT AT EACH CORNER AND HANGS. ON LEFT SIDE A WOOD STAKE IS PLACED THROUGH THE HOLES ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM. ON BACK OF TOP RIGHT CORNER IS A TAG THAT READS "CANADIANA REG'D MISSISSAUGA-ONT. FLAF NO. 07. NYLON. MADE IN CANADA". HAS NUMEROUS SMALL BLACK SPOTS ON MATERIAL.
