Description
CARDBOARD SIGN, WITH IMITATION WOOD-GRAIN TEXTURE. LIGHT BEIGE AND BROWN. HANDWRITTEN IN BLACK INK "MODERN TIMES. MANY AN OLD-TIMER, SAFE IN HIS GRAVE, WOULD BE ASTOUNDED AT THE GREAT CHANGE OVER THE OLD DEEPLY CUT BUFFALO TRAIL COUNTRY AND TODAY'S SMART LITTLE TOWNS, WELL TILLED FARMS, FENCED RANCHES, HARD SURFACED ROADS, TO SAY NOTHING OF REFRIGERATION, AIR CONDITIONING AND THERMOSTAT CONTROL OF OIL HEAT WITHOUT THE BACK BREAKING TOIL OF BUCKING UP CORDWOOD WHICH MIGHT BENEFIT SOME OF TODAY'S YOUTH BUT LEFT THE OLD FOLKS UNENTHUSED. MODERN TIMES MAY HAVE TAKEN MUCH OF THE TOIL OUT OF LIVING BUT THEY HAVE ALSO TAKEN MUCH IN MENTAL SATISFACTION, INDEPENDENCE, PRIDE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT, AND MAN'S ABILITY TO LIVE BY HIS OWN EFFORTS. GRAND DAD WAS ABLE TO GET A START FARMING BY BORROWING A PLOW FROM THE OLD-MAN, A TEAM ON CREDIT FROM A NEIGHBOR, A FEW BUSHELS OF SEED GRAIN, A SIDE OF PORK AND A BUSHEL OF POTATOES. HIS GRAND SON NEEDS $30,000 FOR MACHINERY ALONE." HAMMER, MONKEY WRENCH, AND SEVERAL DOLLAR SIGNS PICTURED BELOW.

Description
CARDBOARD SIGN, WITH IMITATION WOOD-GRAIN TEXTURE. LIGHT BEIGE AND BROWN. HANDWRITTEN IN BLACK INK "1910 TO 1920. 1910 SAW THE CLOSE OF MOST OF THE FREE HOMESTEAD LAND. VILLAGES BEGAN TO GROW INTO TOWNS, BOARDWALKS WERE TORN UP FOR CEMENT WALKS AND MUD ROADS GOT A GRAVEL OR BLACK TOP DRESSING. FIRST AUTOS WERE SOON CHUGGING ALONG IN A CLOUD OF DUST, SCARING STOCK THRU BARB WIRE FENCES. PEMMICAN HAD LOST FAVOR TO SALT PORK AND THE HIGH GRINDING WHEELS OF OX TRANSPORT TO THE CINDERS AND SMOKE OF RAILWAY TRAFFIC. WHITEFACE CATTLE BEGAN TO TAKE OVER THE RANGE AND SADDLE STOCK SHOWED THE INFLUENCE OF DRAFT BLOOD THAT NOW POWERED THE WHOLE COUNTRY. THE OLD CAST IRON STOVE HIT THE SKIDS FOR THE NEW HIGH BACKED STEEL RANGE. CROCKERY REPLACED TINWARE AND CANNED FOOD BEGAN TO APPEAR IN VARIETY." HORNED BULL AND WHEAT SHEAVES PICTURED BELOW. SMALL HOLES AND TEAR AT TOP WHERE HUNG.
