AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO CONTACT HER SON, HOWARD OLSON. OBITUARIES WERE FOUND FOR THE REST OF NELLIE’S SEVEN CHILDREN, HER HUSBAND, AS WELL AS HER SIX OTHER SIBLINGS. ACCORDING TO HER OBITUARY OLSON PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 25, 1984 AT THE AGE OF 88 YEARS. SHE WAS BORN IN ENGLAND TO GEORGE AND EMILY SHENTON (NEE WILLSHAW). FURTHER LETHBRIDGE HERALD RESEARCH PLACES HER FAMILY IN STAFFORDSHIRE DURING THE END OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AND BALLINGTON, CHESHIRE IN THE EARLY YEARS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. THE FAMILY IMMIGRATED TO ENCHANT, ALBERTA IN 1912. ACCORDING TO THE OBITUARY OF ONE OF OLSON’S SISTERS, MABEL WIDLAKE, THEIR FATHER GEORGE SHENTON IMMIGRATED TO CANADA FIRST IN 1908 WHERE HE WORKED ON THE COAL MINES IN NOVA SCOTIA BEFORE GOING WEST TO LETHBRIDGE TO WORK AT THE LIVERY STABLE. FROM 1908 UNTIL 1909, SHENTON WORKED ON THE HIGH LEVEL BRIDGE. HE WENT TO THE ENCHANT DISTRICT IN 1910 AND SENT FOR HIS FAMILY TO JOIN HIM IN 1912. EMILY SHENTON AND HER SEVEN CHILDREN – GEORGE, EDITH, NELLIE, FLORENCE (FLO), HAROLD, MABEL, AND ELSIE – ARRIVED ON OCTOBER 14, 1912. IN A STORY PUBLISHED IN THE FEBRUAY 18, 1978 EDITION OF THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD, HAROLD SHENTON, RECALLED WAITING FOR THEIR DAD TO PICK THEM UP AT THE WINDSOR HOTEL IN LETHBRIDGE TO TAKE THEM TO THE ENCHANT HOMESTEAD. NELLIE OLSON MARRIED OLE OLSON ON APRIL 5, 1917. TOGETHER THEY HAD SEVEN CHILDREN – ESTER GILLESPIE, EMILY HOWG, CLIFFORD, HAROLD, DONALD, HOWARD, AND HERMAN. ACCORDING TO OLSON’S OBITUARY, SHE LIVED IN THE ENCHANT DISTRICT HER ENTIRE LIFE.
