THIS BRUSH WAS USED BY DONOR'S MOTHER, LOIS, WHO NOT ONLY USED IT TO CLEAN HER DENTURES BUT ALSO TO CLEAN MANY OTHER HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS. THE NAKAYAMA FAMILY WAS ORIGINALLY FROM VANCOUVER BUT MOVED TO COALDALE FOLLOWING THE SECOND WORLD WAR WHEN THEY WERE INTERNED AT SLOCAN CITY IN THE INTERIOR OF BRITISH COLUMBIA BY THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT. THE DONOR'S FATHER, REV. CANON G.G. NAKAYAMA, WAS AN ANGLICAN MINISTER IN VANCOUVER, AND THEN ESTABLISHED THE CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION IN COALDALE IN 1945 WHERE HE SERVED UNTIL 1970. BLACK ALUMINUM CLAMP WITH STEEL CLASP AND ALUMINUM KNOB TO ADJUST SIZE OF CLAWED END. ALSO HAS ROUND BASE WITH THREADS TO ATTACH TO TRIPOD. CLAMP IS ATTACHED TO AN OBJECT AND THEN THE CAMERA IS MOUNTED ON THE CLAMP. ITEM IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, WITH LITTLE VISIBLE WEAR OR DAMAGE.

DONOR'S UNCLE, HERBERT RANNARD, WAS AN AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER, WHO WAS BORN IN 1903 IN ENGLAND AND CAME TO LETHBRIDGE IN 1907. ACCORDING TO DONOR, RANNARD WAS A CAR SALESMAN BEFORE WORLD WAR II; THE INDUSTRY VIRTUALLY CAME TO A STOP DURING THE WAR SO HE WENT TO VANCOUVER TO WORK FOR BOEING AND LATER BECAME A PRECISION MACHINIST. HE RETURNED TO LETHBRIDGE AND WORKED FOR CONSUMER HARDWARE AS MANAGER OF SPORTS, RECREATION AND TOY DEPARTMENT UNTIL THE STORE CLOSED. HE THEN OPERATED A COIN BUSINESS IN HIS SISTERS JEWELRY STORE CALLED 'SKELTON JEWELRY'. HE PASSED AWAY APRIL 20, 1995 AT 91 YEARS. *UPDATE* IN 2014 COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT JANE EDMUNDSON CONDUCTED A SURVEY OF MILITARY OBJECTS, INCLUDING THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH HERBERT RANNARD. RANNARD'S OBITUARY FROM THE APRIL 23, 1995 ISSUE OF THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION. HERBERT RANNARD WAS BORN IN LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND IN 1903. HE GREW UP IN LETHBRIDGE AND WORKED FOR THE CPR IN THE FREIGHT DEPARTMENT. RANNARD MOVED TO VANCOUVER TO WORK AT THE BOEING AIRCRAFT PLANT AT THE START OF WWII, TO BUILD CATALINA AMPHIBIOUS AIRCRAFT AND MITCHELL BOMBERS. AFTER THE WAR RANNARD WORKED AT THE PRECISION INSTRUMENT COMPANY IN VANCOUVER, WHERE HE WAS INVOLVED IN GUN-SMITHING AND FINE INSTRUMENT REPAIR. HE MOVED BACK TO LETHBRIDGE IN 1952 TO MANAGE THE SPORTING GOODS DEPARTMENT OF COUNSUMER'S HARDWARE, WHERE HE WORKED UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT IN 1964. A GREEN BOWL. THE BACK OF THE BOWL PUCKERS, SO IT IS NOT COMPLETELY ROUND. ON TOP OF THE PUCKERED PART IS A RED APPLE WITH TWO DARK GREEN LEAVES. ON THE BACK OF THE APPLE A PIECE HAS BEEN BROKEN OFF. THE GLAZE THAT COVERS THE BOWL IS VERY UNEVEN, INSIDE AND OUT. PRESSED INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL ARE THREE WORDS. THE FIRST WORD IS ILLEGIBLE, THE OTHER TWO ARE "ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA".

THERE IS A PRICE TAG ON FRONT THAT READS "EATON'S". BACK OF LABEL GIVES "DIRECTIONS FOR USE" AND A "CAUTION". CIRCULAR, METAL LID COMES OFF; CENTRE OF LID HAS HOLES PUNCHED OUTWARDS IN IT SO IT LOOKS LIKE A GRATER OR ZESTER. CYLINDER CONTAINS MULTIPLE PIECES OF RUBBER, DIFFERENT SHAPES, SIZES, AND COLOURS. ALSO HAS A GREEN AND WHITE TUBE OF "RUBBER CEMENT", AND THREE PIECES OF METAL THAT HAVE VARIOUS GRATER-LIKE HOLES IN THEM.
