TROWEL HAS ORNATE ENGRAVED PATTERN ALL ALONG EDGES. INSCRIPTION "PRESENTED TO JOHN H. FLEETWOOD ESQ. ON THE OCCASION OF HIS LAYING THE CORNERSTONE OF THE FLEETWOOD SCHOOL AT LETHBRIDGE ALTA. 24TH OCTOBER, A.D. 1910" ON FRONT. "ANDREW STERLING" ENGRAVED ON BACK. BLACK WOODEN HANDLE.

DONOR WAS GIVEN TROWEL BY A FRIEND WHO HAD THE TROWEL IN A BOX OF JUNK IN HIS GARAGE. DONOR HAD IT FOR 4-5 YEARS. JOHN "HARRY" FLEETWOOD WAS A MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR 11 YEARS PRIOR TO THE FLEETWOOD SCHOOL BEING NAMED AFTER HIM. HE ALSO HAD BEEN CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD FOR 6 YEARS PRIOR TO 1911. HE HAD A GREAT DEAL TO DO WITH OBTAINING NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS. "HIS HOBBY IS GOOD SCHOOLS", FROM "LETHBRIDGE SCHOOLS: A SOUVENIR ISSUE...". HE WAS SECRETARY TREASURER OF SCHOOL BOARD FROM 1911-1932.
